Dr Andrew Colson – Veterinarian

I graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1984 with second class honours and immediately undertook several short term locum positions around North East Victoria. A position came up at the Myrtleford Veterinary Clinic to fill a vacancy while one of the vets recuperated from a broken leg. He never returned and I never left! I worked under Dr. Peter Lee until 1994 and in 1995 I purchased what was then The Ovens and Kiewa Animal Health Centre with clinics at 62 Lawrence Street in Myrtleford and 6A Camp Street Beechworth.

In 1996 I purchased the Tobacco Growers of Victoria Building at 79 to 81 Myrtle Street and after substantial renovations I moved the practice to its current site later that year. In 2011 I sold the Beechworth branch practice to Dr. Helen Robinson to concentrate more on the core business at Myrtleford.

I am experienced in both small and large animal medicine and surgery and a member of The Australian Veterinary Association, Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association, the Australian Cattle Veterinary Association, The Australian Equine Veterinary Association. I regularly attend post graduate seminars, workshops and conferences to keep abreast of the latest in my profession.

In November 2015 after 31 years working in rural veterinary practice and enduring a personal health scare I elected to sell The Ovens and Kiewa Veterinary Hospital to Dr. Meagan Lee.

I am lucky enough to have been offered an ongoing, part-time job in the practice and I now enjoying being a veterinarian without the huge burden of running the business. I am now able to invest more time with my family enjoying this fabulous part of Australia we live in!
